Strawberry Lemonade Skewers

Katie Schur

Admittedly, this is a Summer 2017 throwback post. I was recently going through my old photos on my phone, and I stumbled upon this summer picnic shot that got me excited for sunny summer days ahead. When the weather starts to warm up, strawberry lemonade is one of my favorite indulgences. Since it's a staple for picnic season, I'm always looking for clever ways to dress up this classic. That's why these strawberry lemon skewers are the perfect thing!

I'm still in love with mason jars and striped straws! Pair them up with a refreshing bite of watermelon and mint and you are in for a special afternoon treat.

These skewers are a great, simple way to spice up your lemonade routine this summer. Here's what you'll need to gather:

-A large pitcher
-Mason jars (a drink dispenser comes in handy for a larger crowd)
-Striped sipping straws
-Ice
-Muddled strawberries
-Pink lemonade mix
-Water

In a large pitcher, mix together the pink lemonade mix, ice and water. Pour into mason jar glasses (or serve from a drink dispenser). Add in the muddled strawberries and sipping straws. Place fruit skewers on the side for guests to stir their drinks.

-Fruit skewers (seafood picks also work really well for this task)
-Whole strawberries with the stem on
-Sliced lemons

To make the skewers, pierce each whole strawberry with a skewer and slide the strawberry to the top of the skewer. Next add the sliced lemon. Keep going until you have enough for each guest.

For this summer snack, I decided to slice up some watermelon with mint. I served the drinks on a dotted melamine tray by Erin Flett and a colorful striped blanket. I always love combining dots and stripes!

During this quick picnic, I also admired the view (and scent) of this blooming honeysuckle bush. It smelled AMAZING and I can't wait for it to bloom again in May.

What summer sips are you dreaming up this spring? I'd love to hear about your favorites @picnicperfectco
