I love trying out new local bars and restaurants, and a new close-to-home favorite is Less Than Greater Than in Hudson, MA. It has a terrific speakeasy concept that makes you feel like you're living in the 20s, but with a modern twist. We recently ordered drinks and a cheese plate and they had a delicious pairing of manchego cheese with candied oranges. I never would have thought of pairing a citrus and cheese together, but the result was delicious.
In honor of strawberry season, I've assembled my own version of this tasty appetizer and added in some of my June strawberry crop. I encourage you to check out Grace Parisi's candied orange slices recipe on Food and Wine (or just try fresh oranges) to assemble your own version.
-Fresh strawberries (in season now at New England farmers' markets)
-Manchego cheese (I purchased Campo de Montalban)
-Oranges (see candied orange recipe above) or just use fresh oranges
Note this recipe pairs well with a cold glass of strawberry ice tea.
Cheers to long weekends!
